Tips for Reducing Ticks & Mosquitoes
Our area is notorious for its high tick levels (and cases of Lyme disease) and mosquito population.
The two most important things you can do is control areas where water accumulates and remove hiding spaces, such as brush piles or long grass. Water can accumulate in common items including buckets, birdbaths, clogged gutters, kids’ toys, wheelbarrows, and flower pots (empty or not). It doesn’t take much either – mosquitoes can lay eggs in as little as 1/4″ of water.
Other Pest Prevention Tips
- Remove leaf piles.
- Clear any brush on your property or at the edges.
- Mown your lawn to keep the grass short (between 2.5-in to 3-in).
- Move wood to a dry area and stack it neatly.
